I spent my entire childhood at CCS. Starting in Mrs. Wood’s preschool class at 4 years old all the way through being one of the first pioneer classes of the high school, graduating in 2011. To me, CCS was much more than a school; it was a safe, stimulating, loving environment where my talents and heart were shaped. It’s where I made core memories and, most importantly, where my calling was established.
During my high school years at CCS, I was privileged to be the worship leader for chapel services and various mission trips and Winter Ex’s. On one particular trip, we were leading worship at a homeless shelter in Knoxville, TN. After the worship set, one of the attendees approached me and said that they had a word from the Lord. He proceeded to speak, “This is what you were made to do. God has anointed you for this,” and handed me a cross necklace he had just received at his own baptism a few weeks prior. Tears streamed down my face as I felt the gravity of this prophetic promise. I knew I was to worship the Lord on mission in some capacity for the rest of my life.
Experiences like this would seem uncommon to most, but at CCS they were expected and welcomed. Our school leaders challenged us to create space for God to work and to praise Him whatever He does. These seeds of faith were planted in us from an early age at CCS, rooted in His Word and sound teaching, and watered through the many staff and faculty that discipled us. We left CCS equipped to enter every environment with our school mission as our focus: “to answer the call of God whenever it comes, wherever it leads, and whatever it costs.”
This calling has led me to now serve as a worship leader for an Anglican church near our home in Fayetteville, NC. Through this opportunity, I am once again leading worship at a local homeless shelter as well as organizing worship nights and leading our weekly service. With my husband serving as a psychologist for the Army, we experience many changes and unknowns as a family with frequent moves and changing jobs. I am forever grateful for the unshakeable foundation and experiences that CCS provided. I can carry them with me no matter where God takes us and can proudly say my years at CCS were some of the best years of my life.
