A message from CCS Head of School, Tom Argersinger

Hello Parents and Friends of CCS!

I hope you had a restful and renewing summer, and that God met you in your daily challenges and joys.

School has gotten off to a great start, and the overall campus vibe is joyful and upbeat. We have welcomed 65 new students, and our returning students have grown so much!

It is a great privilege to serve your families, and we count it a true calling from God to do so.

Every year we prayerfully choose a theme for the year that will guide our spiritual formation across the school.

2023-24 Stand Firm in Love

2024-25 Proclaim Jesus as Lord

And for this year, we have chosen:

LIVE THE KINGDOM!

Matt. 6:33-34

Throughout the year we will refer to multiple supporting Biblical texts to expand on this theme, digging deep to discover all that God has for us to be, know and do related to what it means to live as a Kingdom citizen in a topsy turvy, upside down world.

Our Gospel Centered Education Podcast will resume in September for our 3rd season, with a focus on what it means to be Imago Dei (that is, made in the image of God), and how that affects how we live in this particular cultural moment.

Also of note is the formation of our Artificial Intelligence Task Force, a select group of Admin, teachers, Board members, parents and students who will collaborate to produce an official statement on AI and how it is applied here at CCS.

Of course, we already have Divisional guidelines in place (contact your Principal for more details), and a set of guiding principles that we are using school-wide in the following interim principles:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) at CCS: Interim Principles

  • AI will have a function at our school. We are not afraid of it, nor will we run from it.

  • AI “skills” and work should not replace student skills and work that are endemic to their development of a “renewed and skillful mind.”

  • We will avoid anthropomorphisms* of AI.

    • AI can be a helpful servant when maturely and properly used, but it is not a “friend” or “colleague”.

    • CCS does not recommend or endorse AI as a personal counselor in any situation.

  • A school policy statement on AI Integration will be published in Spring 2026.

*the attribution of human characteristics, personality or behavior to a non-human entity.

The world is accelerating into change, and in many cases our ethics, personal character and tools of adaptation have not kept pace with the speed of change.

We will approach this issue as we do all complex challenges, with prayer, collaborative conversations and Biblical wisdom. Being an early, overly optimistic adopter of a powerful tool like AI is not wise, and CCS will move into this space slowly and with due caution.

May God bless this new year, and may He be most glorified as we serve Him!

For CCS and the Kingdom,

Tom
